Acacia Angel Tracie Metcalfe – Inspiring others into care

Acacia Angel Tracie Metcalfe – Inspiring others into care

Hi I am Tracie Metcalfe, 45 years old from Hayes.  I have been working for Acacia Homecare NW Surrey for 7 years and have progressed from carer to my current role of Senior Carer.  Before I started this career, I had a few jobs here and there but my main role was a full time mum and I had no other care experience, but knew it was something I always wanted to do.

The reason I joined Acacia Homecare NW Surrey over other care companies was because my first impressions were that they were brilliant and were really helpful throughout the training process and continue to be even after all these years.  They have been a great support to me over the years and are very flexible that I can not imagine working anywhere else.

I absolutely love my current role as Senior Carer which I have been for 3 years now as not only do I get to travel to my customers’ homes and care for them, but I also get to support new carers who join and have started out with no care experience just like me.   I love everything about my role, but my most favourite part is working alongside the other Acacia Angels and office staff!

Of course working in care isn’t easy, especially when caring for the vulnerable and elderly and it can be challenging at times.  However it is so much more rewarding and the challenges are part of the role, but we all work as a team and get through these together. At the moment, I am studying for my level 3 in Health and Social care which I am doing through Acacia Homecare, who are supporting me throughout.  I have an online tutor, but I have a team here as well who I know I can call anytime if I need extra help.  They are keen to help me furthering my education in this field and it is definitely helping me learn new aspects of care as things are ever changing.
